A postcard from 1911 shows a proud H. Claus with his family standing in front of his ‘pension & flower studio’ De Achterhoek. In retrospect, this perhaps marks their start in the hospitality industry. In the 60s, Claus’ son Richard and his wife Joos leased "Zimmer mit Frühstück" (‘Room with Breakfast’) in their home located at the beautiful seaside resort Noordwijk aan Zee. Richard Claus in those years was sales manager at a match factory and his wife Joos took care of the lease. Late 60s, they decided to exchange their carefree existence in Noordwijk for an adventure in the hospitality industry. Together with their two sons, Leo and Rick, they opened their first venue, ‘Haarlem Bowling’, in 1969. At the end of the 'swinging sixties', the ten bowling lanes and a cozy bar formed the basis for Claus Company, which was an instant success! The Claus family took bowling, at that time almost new to the Netherlands, to a whole new level and augmented it with restaurants and nightlife.
