A postcard from 1911 shows a proud H. Claus with his family standing in front of his ‘pension & flower studio’ De Achterhoek. In retrospect, this perhaps marks their start in the hospitality industry. In the 60s, Claus’ son Richard and his wife Joos leased "Zimmer mit Frühstück" (‘Room with Breakfast’) in their home located at the beautiful seaside resort Noordwijk aan Zee. Richard Claus in those years was sales manager at a match factory and his wife Joos took care of the lease. Late 60s, they decided to exchange their carefree existence in Noordwijk for an adventure in the hospitality industry. Together with their two sons, Leo and Rick, they opened their first venue, ‘Haarlem Bowling’, in 1969. At the end of the 'swinging sixties', the ten bowling lanes and a cozy bar formed the basis for Claus Company, which was an instant success! The Claus family took bowling, at that time almost new to the Netherlands, to a whole new level and augmented it with restaurants and nightlife.

The two sons, Leo and Rick, eager for the hospitality industry, chose to study at the Hotelschool in The Hague. Their studies and travels through the USA inspired them and they soon realized that entertainment should be an "experience". When Richard Claus died in 1978 at a much too young age, his sons continued the legacy. In 1980, they opened a second Claus venue in Alkmaar with bowling lanes, a restaurant, bar and event areas. The company name was changed to Claus Partyhouse. Claus Partyhouse was different because of the interiors in fanciful themes. They introduced new forms of dining in the Netherlands: BBQ, stone grill and hotplate, usually in combination with some form of entertainment. Bowling, along with many other types of entertainment, became part of a complete night out. Many parties were hosted, also with many well-known artists, such as André van Duin.

The brothers signed a franchise agreement with the well-known hotel chain Marriott, which currently owns more than 4.000 hotels worldwide. Partly because of the hotel, it was decided in 2003 to give the company a new name with a more professional and multifunctional character. After all, Claus Company grew up to be more than a host of mere ‘parties, weddings and children's festivities’. Meanwhile, the business market also discovered the ideal combination of the venue locations and the Schiphol hotel and excellent accessibility. PartyWorld is renamed Claus Event Center and together with the Schiphol hotel, the company welcomes its guests as Claus Hotel & Event Center.

After 25 years Storehouse restaurant the management of Claus thought it was time for something different. After a search along different food concepts they made the choice for the churrasco rodizio concept. On October 2nd 2015 the new restaurant BARRACA Rodizio Grill & Bar opened. Rodizio is the Brazilian way of serving. Passadores are constantly walking around with large skewers with freshly-grilled meat and prawns from the Churrasco Grill. The restaurant features a continuous table-side service of different cuts. The restaurant, with 200 seats, is designed by the famous architect Ronald Hooft in urban rustic 'style. BARRACA will presents itself as a stand-alone restaurant, but also fits perfectly within the new Claus concept combined with bowling, casino and events.
